Departure and First Day
Our journey started early in the morning. We said goodbye to our parents and took a Flixbus to Zurich. Our excitement kept growing, and we were really looking forward to going to Spain. Once we arrived at the airport, we checked in our luggage and boarded the plane to Barcelona. The flight took about two hours.
After landing, we picked up our luggage and headed towards the exit. Our host families were already waiting for us there. We were all warmly welcomed and so happy to see each other again after three months. Then we drove to Mataró, which took around 45 minutes.
Once we arrived at our host families’ homes, we settled in and made ourselves comfortable. Later, we all went out together toget some frozen yogurt in the city. While walking around, the Spanish students showed us around and explained a few things about the town.
Monday
On Monday morning, everyone went to school with their exchange partner. When we arrived, we all received a very friendly welcome and first played a few games to get to know each other better. We were then introduced to the project for the Erasmus week and had to split into groups. Then we started the project in our groups. Each group had to come up with a game that would improve including everyone and teamwork. After a short break, we were given a school tour and told which room was for what purpose. After the school tour, we were dismissed and everyone went home with their exchange partner and had lunch. Later all the exchange students met up and went to the shopping center in Mataró. We did some shopping there and all went home again in the evening.
Tuesday
Today we did a lot of different things in Mataro.
In the morning we met a school and worked on our project about dynamic games and how to work on inclusion.
Suddenly a couple of students of the University of Mataro joined us and gave us a presentation on “Human Towers”.
Human Towers is a sport in Spain, where people build pyramids out of people. And this looks like that:

First they gave us an introduction of the tradition. Everybody who is part of the tower becomes a colored belly around the waist to give stability to the tower and to help to climb up the tower. While building the tower, a band is playing music – and the music depends on what happens in the human tower.
Then we went to the gym and learned how to build a human tower.
Our tower looked like this:

Fur lunch we went to the beach and actually it was planned to have a kayak workshop, but unfortunately German students were not allowed to join due to security issues, so this was something the Spanish students had to do on their own.

Afterwards we went to the campus of the university and watched the training of the human tower group.
In the evening the whole group went downtown to eat the traditional and famous churros.

What a perfect day!
Wednesday
On Wednesday we weren't in school like the other days but instead we drove all together by bus in the morning to Barcelona. The bus drive took about 40min from mataró. When we've arrived our first sight was the Sagrada Familia. The sad thing was that the Church isn't finished after 140 years but it was set to finish in 2026. After that we went to see some beautiful buildings from Joseph Puigi Cadafalch. He is from Mataró, he lived in the 80s and 90s. We also went through the "Jardin de Palau Robert". Also a highlight was "mercant de la boyueria" it's a market in the center of Barcelona. While we were walking our host students told us about the pickpockets and how we can spot them, that was really funny. Our last stop in Barcelona was the "capella de Santa llúcia". After all this we walked back to the bus and that point out legs hurt because we walked so much. As we arrived back to mataró we spend the evenings with them.
Thursday
On Thursday, we went to school like every day and worked on our project (teamwork). After school, we took the bus to a climbing park in the forest. It was very large and had many zip lines. Afterwards, I had to walk home with my exchange partner Lara, and then we went out to eat tapas – it was very delicious.
Friday
On Friday, we met at school in the morning as usual. Each group then presented their project. Afterwards, we played a few games together. To finish off, we received certificates as a sign that we had participated.
Next, we were taken to the airport in groups. There, we said our goodbyes before heading back to Germany. After arriving in Zurich, we took the train to Friedrichshafen. Finally, we were picked up there by our parents.
